Studio Kader is an independent project studio for art and design led by Carolina Aboarrage and Lot Meijers.
We design books, publications, exhibitions, visual identities and websites, and we produce exhibitions and commissions for artists and cultural institutions. Design and production happen within the same studio, so each can shape the other throughout a project. Some clients come to us for design, some for production, and some for both.
Each project starts from its content: an artist’s practice, a collection, an archive, years of research. We spend time with that material before making decisions. The content shapes the design.
In books and publications, we work on structure, typography, image sequence and composition, and follow each book through to print: paper, binding, proofs and press checks. In exhibitions, design and production run side by side, from the first floor plan and the wall texts to the final installation. In commissions, we guide a work from the artist’s proposal to its realisation, including budgets, planning and fabrication.
We work in print, in physical space and on screen, and design identities that hold together across all three. We pay close attention to materials and to how the work is read, seen and used.
Based in Amsterdam, the studio works in the cultural field, in the Netherlands and internationally, with artists, curators, museums, publishers and foundations.
