Opdracht Almere
The Municipality of Almere is initiating a new land art project for Almere. Commissioned by the municipality, the Land Art Flevoland Foundation is supervising the process - from plan of approach to realisation.
The advisory committee chose the project Reed Bank Cycles by Sachi Miyachi to be realised around the Weerwater in Almere. The design consists of a temporary, iconic paper mill where paper money for the city of Almere will be made. The paper money will be made from water and reeds from the lake.
After the celebration of 50 years of Almere in 2026, the paper mill will be deconstructed and the foundation turned into a permanent sculpture. In it, the forms of the paper-making process can still be recognised, recalling what happened in the mill.
